All four arrested police personnel are posted at the Cyber Police Station in Ayodhya. A case had been registered there some time ago against a man from Sikar, Rajasthan. The police personnel struck a deal to hush up the matter in exchange for a bribe. Reportedly, the deal was settled at rupee 8 lakh, of which fifty percent had already been paid. To collect the remaining amount, the police personnel drove to Sikar. However, instead of the expected 4 lakh, they received 2.80 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off (likely provided by the person who gave the bribe money), the Sikar ACB team set up a blockade. They intercepted the police personnel on Tuesday afternoon at the Rashidpura Toll Plaza on the Sikar-Bikaner National Highway. It is alleged that the accused attempted to flee by ramming their car into the ACB team’s vehicle. A search led to the recovery of the bribe money. The ACB team subsequently arrested the four personnel posted at the Ayodhya Cyber Police Station.
Vijay Singh, the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Sikar ACB, told the media that the accused had arrived in Sikar three days prior to collect the bribe from the complainant. Acting on information provided by the complainant, the Sikar ACB team had already laid a trap. During questioning, the accused were unable to explain the source of the money recovered from their possession.
Meanwhile, Ayodhya Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Gaurav Grover ordered the suspension of the four police personnel—Sub-Inspector Yashwant Singh and Constables Pawan Kumar Tripathi, Sohan Lal, and Gaurav—late Tuesday evening. Police stated that the four had been accused of accepting bribes while investigating a cybercrime case. Following a preliminary inquiry that substantiated the allegations, they were suspended with immediate effect.
