All four bodies were recovered on Saturday from their apartment located in the high-security Navy Nagar cantonment area. The sailor has been identified as 30-year-old Puranmal Shambhulal Mehra. His wife, 28-year-old Oma Puranmal Mehra, their sons 3-year-old Yash Puranmal Mehra, and 2-month-old infant were found dead on the bed.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the sailor committed suicide by hanging, while it is suspected that the wife and both children died after consuming poison. All four bodies were sent to Mumbai’s JJ Hospital. The exact cause of death will be determined following the post-mortem examination. The police did not find any suicide note at the scene.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Manish Kalwaniya stated that initial investigations indicate the sailor died by hanging, whereas poisoning appears to be the cause of death for his wife and children.
The Indian Navy in a statement said, “In a tragic incident at Navy Nagar, Colaba, an Indian Navy sailor, his wife, and two children were found dead at their home on August 15, 2026. The police are investigating, and the Indian Navy is extending all possible assistance.”
The police are awaiting the post-mortem report and further details.
