Accident on Silk Route in Sikkim: vehicle fell into deep gorge, 4 soldiers lost life

Indian Army paid tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives in a road accident in Sikkim.

Four army personnel lost their lives in a road accident in Sikkim province of northeastern India. The vehicle in which the four were travelling slipped off the road and fell into a 700 feet deep gorge.

The army said that the four personnel were going from Pedong in West Bengal to Zuluk along the Silk Route in Pakyong district of Sikkim. The deceased soldiers  were identified as Pradeep Patel from Madhya Pradesh, W Peter from Manipur, Naik Gursev Singh from Haryana, and Subedar K Thangapandi from Tamil Nadu. They all belonged to the Enroute Mission Command unit stationed in Binnaguri, West Bengal.

The accident took place on Thursday near Dalapchand Dara on the Rhenock Rongli state highway in Sikkim. Police said that the vehicle carrying army personnel stationed in Binnaguri, West Bengal, slipped off the road in a vertical bhir on the Rhenock-Rongli highway and fell down into the forest. Due to which all the four injured army personnel died.In a post on social media X by the Eastern Command of the Indian Army, it has been said that Army Commander Lieutenant General RC Tiwari and all rank officers express deep condolences on the death of Subedar K Thangapandi, Naik Gursev Singh, Craftsman W Peter Singh and Sepoy Pradeep Patel during duty in Sikkim. The Indian Army stands firmly with the bereaved families.
