Police Families Welfare Society celebrated Golden Jubilee ‘UPAAN’.

Police Families Welfare Society (PFWS) under the aegis of Delhi Police celebrated its Golden Jubilee ‘UPAAN’ at Police Headquarters here in Delhi today. A mega event on the day , including a cultural show was organised by the talented wards of Delhi Police families. Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana was spellbound by the stage performance of PFWS wards and could not resist from announcing Rs. 1 Lakh reward to the troupe members.

Union Minister of Women & Child Development Smriti Irani was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Event was hosted by Anu Asthana who is the President of PFWS and Rakesh Asthana as Patron of the society.

Smt. Irani congratulated the PFWS team for working for the welfare of the Delhi Police families for 50 years. Paying homage to the departed police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty, the chief guest commended the commitment of each and every police personnel rendered in the safetyand security of Capital City. The chief guest complimented contribution of erstwhile Presidents of society and also acknowledged gracious presence of Mrs. Loveleen Bhagat, Smt. Kaushal, Smt. Mala Kumar and Smt. Pratibha Shrivastav. Smt. Irani wished that in the coming 50 years Delhi Police remains resolute in ensuring a secure environment wherein girls/women can move around freely without any inhibition or fear. “Police uniform is a symbol of protection to every citizen “, the Minister said.

In the welcome address, Police commissioner Shri Asthana said that the journey of 50 years was not easy. The relentless service of PFWS has reflected in its growth from 2 centres initially to 10 centres across the city today. It is a known fact that job of police personnel is stressful, yet all the issues from small to bigger ones like terrorism are handled 24 X 7 for safety and security of the capital. But the arduous job can only be performed with the support of family.

Smt. Anu Asthana, in her address, presented an outline of the PFWS activities and its evolution. She thanked the Chief Guest and all the guests, especially former Presidents for being a part of Golden Jubilee celebrations.

Smriti Irani inaugurated “Swayam on Wheels”, the 1st PFWS Mobile Van and also unveiled Dindaanii, a painting dedicated to society’s efforts , by renowned artist Sanjay Bhattacharya. Quarterly Newsletter (Jan- March 22) of society was also released on the occasion. A documentary showcasing the works of PFWS undertaken during the last 50 years was also shown. Several dignitaries including Sanjay Bhattacharya, Padma Shri Paresh Maity and Sindhu Mishra were felicitated on the occasion. Aids were also distributed among Divyaang family members.

According to a press release, the Police Families Welfare Society ( established in 1972) is working with the aim and objective of meeting financial, emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs of the families of police personnel. Delhi Police observed ‘PFWS Week’ from April 1st to 7th by organizing a number of cultural events and educational programs across all the ten Welfare Centers in Delhi.
