Satish Golcha, a 1992 batch officer of the Indian Police Service, will now be made the chief of Delhi Home Guards. He will replace the current Director General of Delhi Home Guards, Virendra Singh, on his retirement on October 1. At present Mr. Golcha has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty in Delhi Home Guards.
In the bureaucratic world , being sent to the Home Guards after holding the post of Top Cop of the National Capital’s Police is considered not less then a punishment posting. Mr. Golcha was suddenly removed from the post of Commissioner of Delhi Police in July 2026. Since there was no new suitable vacancy, Mr. Golcha was asked to report to the office of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
IPS Anurag Kumar was posted as Delhi Police Commissioner in Golcha’s place. This is about the time when protests demonstrations were going on at Jantar Mantar in Delhi for several days against the NEET paper leak case. Cockroach Janta Party had announced ‘Parliament March’ on July 20 demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
This was a very challenging situation for Delhi Police. The protest by Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) was getting support from many elite people and a large number of common people, especially Gen G. While renowned environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk was on a fast unto death, All India Students Association (AISA) President Neha Bora was on a hunger strike with her friends. Not only was this movement getting full support on social media but people were also reaching Jantar Mantar in large numbers. But what happened on July 20 was unexpected. The police could not even make an estimate of the number of protesters. When the crowd gathered, the police arrangements were disrupted. During the process, the police used excessive force to control them and the police and the RAF that came to help were accused of using inhumane methods. After the order of the Supreme Court, a high power committee was formed to investigate this entire episode.
The tenure of the current Director General of Delhi Home Guards, Virender Singh, will be completed on 30 September 2026. According to the order, Mr. Golcha will take charge in his place on October 1st. In view of the convenience in transfer of charge, Shri Golcha has been appointed OSD till then.
