Panic spread through the vicinity of the City Police Station in Jalalabad, a quiet border town in Punjab’s Fazilka district, after the sound of an explosion was heard there around midnight on Saturday.

Police officials reported that the windows of two cars parked inside the station premises were damaged. The area has been cordoned off, and entry into the police station has been restricted. Footage from nearby CCTV cameras is being procured for the investigation.

Police stated that the windows of two vehicles, which had been seized in connection with various criminal cases, were damaged by the impact of the blast.

A forensic team from Bathinda arrived at the scene and collected material samples for analysis. When asked about rumors regarding a possible grenade attack, Fazilka Superintendent of Police (D), Satinder Kumar, said, “Nothing can be said without confirmation.”

However, he confirmed that the windows of two seized vehicles parked at the station were damaged. He also confirmed that a low-intensity blast had occurred within the police station premises.

Coincidentally, very few police personnel were present at the police station at the time of the blast. Officials explained that most of the staff were deployed in various parts of the city due to protests regarding power outages in Punjab. Since it was 2:00 AM and the main gate of the station was closed, it is considered unlikely that anyone could have entered to plant the explosive device. A concern was also raised that someone might have thrown a bomb-like object into the police station premises from outside.

The police appealed to the public not to panic and to maintain calm.
