Retired IPS officer Ved Marwah breathed his last on Friday in Mapusa town of Goa where he was getting treatment from a private hospital. He was 87 year old. He took the charge of police commissioner when Delhi and its police was going through the worst situation. Its men were responsible for killing Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the city had seen the worst ever, post independence , killings of Sikhs arsoning and looting. Image of the police force was tarnished and was demoralised too because of inaction against rioting mobs. Initially he was tasked to inquire into police lapses but later after a short span of time, appointed its Chief. He took the challenge and led the force for three years , from 1985 to 1988 , as Commissioner.
