Indian Army doctor lost life while saving 3 soldiers at Siachen

An Indian Army Medical officer died while saving  the lives of three soldiers in a fire  accident  at Siachen Glacier in the Ladakh region early morning on Wednesday ( July 19, 2023 ).It is said that the fire incident occurred in an ammunition dump.

Captain Anshuman Singh was a Regimental Medical Officer. He belonged to Lucknow , the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. His father Subedar RP Singh retired a year ago from signals. Captain Anshuman got married this year in the month of February .

Leh-based defence spokesperson Lt Col PS Sidhu said the incident took place at about 3am.

“Captain Anshuman Singh, Regimental Medical Officer, succumbed to serious burn injuries sustained during the unfortunate incident. Three other personnel suffered smoke inhalation and second-degree burns,” Lt Col Sidhu said.

The injured personnel have been safely air-evacuated for further treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable, he added.

Lt. Gen. (retired) Satish Dua tweeted ,” In a fire accident at Siachen glacier, Capt Anshuman, a medical officer, lost his life while trying to save his soldiers”.  While paying tribute to the departed soul Lt. Gen. Dua’s  added –  Such is the bravery of young leaders. His father, Subedar RP Singh said that despite his loss, he was proud that his son was a Braveheart.

Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, the Member of Lok Sabha from Ladakh paid tribute to the Medical Officer. He tweeted , ” In the face of tragedy, I pay tribute to Capt Anshuman, a courageous hero who gave his life protecting his soldiers in the Siachen fire incident. His selflessness and valor will be eternally cherished. My heartfelt condolences to his loved ones. May Capt Anshuman rest in peace “.


 ” My thoughts and prayers are also with the three injured soldiers, and I earnestly pray for their swift recovery”, said Sh. Namgyal.
