Kargil War:
The women riders  will pay tribute to the soldiers  at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras ,  who laid down their lives in the 999 war . The Kargil War  was fought between India and  Pakistan.  India had lost 527 of its soldiers in the Kargil war whereas 1363 soldiers got injured. Pakistan has officially confirmed that 453 of its soldiers were killed in this war. An American report says that Pakistan lost around 700 soldiers in the Kargil war. This war started in the month of May 1999 and its decisive battle was fought in the last week of July 1999.

Area Challenges:
Dras is a part of the Kargil district of Union Territory of Ladakh. It is one of the coldest and most difficult geographical locations in the world. Fighting here is a big deal, even living a simple life in all the twelve months of the year is no less than an achievement in Dras. To reach this part of India ,  by road ,  one goes through Srinagar but on the way we have to cross the dangerous Zozila pass.  This road remains closed till March-April due to heavy snow in winter. Now an all weather tunnel is being constructed  here, after completion of which there will be land connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh for the entire year.
