The Community policing is still relevant in this digital era. What is better than community policing for people of cosmopolitan city like Delhi where crime takes place with quick frequency. The role of security guards and chowkidars becomes important in community policing as these guards and chowkidars can help police maintain law and order in an area in a better way. Precisely this reason, Delhi Police has launched a Community Policing scheme,”Prahari”, in South West Delhi on Friday.

Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik launched the scheme. The “Prahari” scheme has been initiated to understand the importance of functions performed by chowkidars and security guards, stated the official release.

Delhi police chose south west district for the pilot project , `prahari’, as South-west district houses lots of farm houses, VIP areas, shopping malls and markets where chowkidars and security guards are deployed in large numbers.

Acccording to the press statement, chowkidars/security guards will act as the eyes and ears of police. It will help to bring professionalism in the work of chowkidars/security guards by giving them appropriate training and enabling frequent POLICE-PRAHARI interaction and co-operation.

Policing in a densely populated metropolis such as Delhi requires that the police increase its reach through a community policing initiative such as “prahari”.
