Rajni Kant Misra is New DG of BSF, SS Deswal will command SSB

IPS officer Rajni Kant Misra was on Thursday appointed the Director General of Border Security Force (BSF) where as BSF Special Director General S.S. Deswal as the SSB Director General. Rajni Kant Misra will replace the 1982 batch Rajasthan cadre IPS officer K.K. Sharma, who is going to retire on September 30.

According to a press release Cabinet Committee on Appointments cleared both the appointments on the basis of a proposal by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) is mandated to guard the Indo -Bhutan & Indo-Nepal borders whereas the BSF guards the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders. BSF is also entrusted with the responsibility of internal security to counter left wing extremism.

Rakni Kant Misra will command BSF only for 11 months as he is going to retire next year. Rajni Kant Misra is a 1984-batch Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officer and he has been appointed up to his superannuation on August 31, 2019, or until further orders, whichever is earlier,’ said a Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions order issued on September 26, 2018.

The appointment of IPS SS Deswal, a 1984-batch Haryana cadre officer, will be “up to his superannuation on August 31, 2021, or until further orders, whichever is earlier”.
