Assam government Cabinet , led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has approved a 12 percent reservation for Agniveers in constable-level recruitment across various forces and departments, including the police.

Agniveers will get reservation quota during  recruitment,  for posts such as constable in Assam police, commando, jail warden, fireman, State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) constable, forest guard, and excise constable within the Assam Police. The benefit of the reservation will be available only to those Agniveers who are permanent residents of Assam.

Chief Minister Sarma stated that the objective of this move is to utilize the training and experience gained by Agniveers during their four-year service and to induct them into the state’s uniformed services.

The government has also approved a one-time grant of rupee 10 crore for the infrastructural development of the Assam Regiment. Mr. Sarma noted that the regiment has a deep connection with Assam, and approximately half of its personnel are Assamese.

In addition to other Cabinet decisions, approval has also been granted to levy a ‘Green Tax’ of ₹3,000 on the sale or transfer of  more than three years old vehicles in Assam.
