Divya Chaudhary, a jailor posted at Rajasthan’s Ajmer Central Jail, was arrested and subsequently imprisoned within the same jail. She is accused of taking two female inmates out of the prison without authorization to have them perform domestic chores.
Although the incident occurred in July, the case was registered in August. Police said that Jailor Divya absconded following the incident and was also suspended. Now, after approximately two months, she has been arrested in Kota.
Ajmer Deputy Superintendent of Police (North) Shivam Joshi stated that Divya Chaudhary was arrested on Wednesday and produced before the court. The court remanded her to judicial custody, sending her to jail.
DSP Shivam Joshi explained that on July 12, Divya, serving as a jailor at Ajmer Central Jail, allegedly took two female inmates, Kiran and Sana (both serving life sentences for separate murder cases), out of the prison in a private vehicle without court permission or any entry in the jail records.
He stated that the two inmates were taken to Divya’s private flat, where they were made to do work. Jail staff had raised objections when the inmates were being taken out through the main gate. It is alleged that Divya Chaudhary threatened them. Following this incident, a case was registered at the Civil Lines police station in Ajmer on August 5, 2028, and Divya—along with Sonia Chaudhary, a prison guard who had abetted her—was suspended.
Shivam Joshi said that the police traced Divya’s location using technical evidence and arrested her from a residential flat in Kota. However, the police are still searching for Sonia.
