Rajnath assumes office as Defence Minister, asks officials to set time bound targets

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh assumed charge as the Raksha Mantri

Rajnath Singh has taken charge as the Defence Minister in Delhi on Saturday. Singh who was Home Minister in the previous NDA government, has been allocated the portfolio of Defence Ministry by President Ram Nath Kovind on the advise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Soon after assuming the office, Singh held a meeting with defence secretary and other top defence officials . Among those who were present in the meeting included Army chief General Bipin Rawat, Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa and newly appointed Navy chief Karambir Singh. In the meeting, the MoD officials gave a presentation on the functioning of the Ministry. Singh has instructed the officers to prepare detailed presentations on all Divisions and set time bound targets to achieve the desired outcome.

Prior to taking charge as Defence Minister Rajnath visited the National War Memorial to pay tributes to soldiers who had laid down their lives for the country after India became Independent. Before assuming the charge Rajnath Singh in a tweet said, “Look forward to further strengthen National Security & Defence”.
