Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit has been appointed as the Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force (IAF). An accomplished fighter pilot and test aviator, he currently serves as the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff. Air Marshal Dixit will assume his new office on July 1. He will be  the senior-most Air Marshal following the retirement of Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh later this year.

As a flying instructor and experimental test pilot, with a  career spanning nearly four decades , Air Marshal Dixit has logged over 3,300 hours of flying across more than 20 types of aircraft—including the Mirage-2000, MiG-21, and Jaguar.

An alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Ashutosh Dixit has held various operational, command, and staff appointments. In these roles, he has played a pivotal part in the modernization and capability enhancement of the Indian Air Force.

A significant aspect of his career involved work with the Mirage-2000 fleet. As the Commanding Officer of a squadron undergoing re-equipment, he oversaw the induction process of the fighter aircraft and led the acceptance and ferry flights of new Mirage jets from France to India. He was also instrumental in enhancing mission-planning systems for the aircraft, which were subsequently utilized during operational deployments and international exercises.

As the commander of a flight test squadron, Mr. Dixit was deeply involved in the upgrade programs for Jaguar and MiG-27 fighter aircraft. He helped enhance the operational capabilities and extend the service life of these aircraft. Drawing on his experience as a test pilot, he also served as an instructor at the Air Force Test Pilot School.
