Former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur suddenly falls ill in Deoria jail , admitted in hospital

Lodged in Deoria Jail of Uttar Pradesh , former Indian Police Service officer Amitabh Thakur,  has been admitted to the hospital. He suddenly experienced chest pain on Tuesday night.  Amitabh Thakur was first sent to a hospital in Deoria for treatment and then to a hospital in Gorakhpur. Now there are reports that he is being sent to Lucknow. However, doctors say that Mr. Thakur’s condition is improving.

Initially  Amitabh Thakur  showed symptoms similar to a heart attack, but the doctors treating him could not make a definitive diagnosis. He was referred from one place to another.

Former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur was arrested in a case related to irregularities in the allocation and subsequent sale of an industrial plot allotted to his wife, Nutan Thakur, about two and a half decades ago. This case was registered recently.

Firstly, Amitabh Thakur was immediately taken to Maharshi Devraha Baba Medical College in Deoria, where after initial treatment, doctors referred him to Baba Raghav Das Medical College (BRD Medical College) in Gorakhpur. Seeing his serious condition, doctors shifted Amitabh Thakur to the intensive care unit (ICU). A special team of three doctors is continuously monitoring his health. However, on Wednesday, doctors giving an update on his health said that Amitabh Thakur’s condition has improved. He is able to talk. However, it may take some time to refer him as some test reports are yet to come.

Doctors said that some tests of Mr. Thakur are yet to be conducted, and a review will be done after the reports come. He is likely to be referred to Lucknow afterward.

Case against IPS Amitabh Thakur:
The case against former IPS Amitabh Thakur, who was prematurely retired from service, is related to an incident from two and a half decades ago. At that time, Amitabh Thakur was the Superintendent of Police in Deoria district.

This was in 1999. It is alleged that while serving as SP in Deoria, Amitabh Thakur used  his influence and got a valuable plot of land in the industrial area which was allotted to his wife Nutan Thakur. The same  was later sold.

Now, after many years, a case has been registered in this matter at the Deoria Kotwali police station. He was arrested and taken off a train in the middle of the night while traveling from Lucknow to Delhi. Amitabh Thakur was produced in court in Shahjahanpur and then sent to jail. Amitabh Thakur’s wife, Nutan Thakur, is also an accused in this case.
