For saving lives of several women and children trapped due to sudden landslide near Vaishu Devi Shrine in Jammu and Kashmir without caring for his own life, CRPF head constable Harvinder Singh has been awarded posthumously with the Prime Minister’s Police Medal for life saving award. Singh who worked as head constable with 05 Battalion of CRPF in Jammu and Kashmir had shown exemplary ideal of self sacrifice in a life threatening incident on August 24, 2016.

According to the official release, Jawan Singh who was on frisking duty near Vaishno Devi Shrine when he noticed some women pilgrims along with their kids trapped due to sudden landslide. Head constable Singh rushed to rescue the trapped pilgrims.A huge bolder came rolling down at the trapped pilgrims from the hill top.To save these pilgrims, Singh pushed pilgrims aside and came under the errant bolder which killed him instantly.His sacrifice for saving so many lives has certainly set an example for others. Recognising the supreme sacrifice by head constable Singh, the government decided to posthumously honour him with the highest recognition for self sacrifice
