Retired Colonel of Indian Army arrested in bribery case in Uttarakhand

The vigilance department of the Uttarakhand government has arrested a retired colonel of the Indian Army, posted as  District Sainik Welfare Officer.  The name of the arrested colonel is Dr. Subodh Shukla who was the head of the District Sainik Welfare Office in Bageshwar. Colonel Shukla had  taken bribe from an ex-serviceman  who needed reemployment. The vigilance team caught the accused red handed and recovered Rs 50,000 accepted as bribe money from him. Colonel Shukla has been sent to jail in judicial custody for now.

The complainant in this case, the victim ex-serviceman, was on re-appointment for 11 months and his tenure was now ending which he wanted to extend. He had approached Colonel Shukla for help regarding the extension of his service through the District Sainik Welfare Office. The victim alleged that Colonel Shukla was ready to help him but demanded Rs 90,000. Later on he was ready to reduce it to Rs 50,000 and fixed the deal.

The ex-serviceman lodged a complaint at the State Vigilance Toll-Free Helpline (1064). After investigation, the team led by DSP Anil Singh Manral of the Vigilance Department laid a trap at Colonel’s office In Bageshwar on Saturday. The team arrested Colonel (Retd.) Subodh Shukla as soon as he took the bribe amount from the complainant .

Director of the Vigilance Department Dr V Murugeshan has praised the team that caught the colonel and announced to honour them with a reward. He said that many complaints of corruption have come through the toll free helpline number 1064 and action has been taken. He said  that such complaints can be made on WhatsApp number 9456592300 . The vigilance department has arrested more than 150 corrupt officials of the Uttarakhand state government in the last three years.
