Lieutenant General Raja Subramani presently giving his services as the Military Advisor in the National Security Council Secretariat. He assumed this position on September 1, 2025.
Prior to this, he served as the Vice Chief of Army Staff from July 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025. Before that, from March 2023 to June 2024, he was posted as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Army’s Central Command.
Military Career:
Commissioned into the ‘Garhwal Rifles’ in December 1985, Lieutenant General Subramani has had a career spanning over 37 years in the Indian Army. Throughout his service, he has served in various conflict zones and across diverse terrains. His postings have encompassed a wide range of command, staff, and training-related appointments.
Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani is renowned for his deep understanding of the operational nuances along both India’s Western and Northern borders.
Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani is a graduate of the National Defence Academy (NDA) and the Indian Military Academy (IMA).
He has also undergone training at the Joint Services Command and Staff College in Bracknell, UK, and the National Defence College in New Delhi. He holds a Master of Arts degree from King’s College London and an M.Phil. degree in Defence Studies from the University of Madras.

For his distinguished service, Lieutenant General Subramani has been conferred with numerous honours, including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal, and Vishisht Seva Medal, among others.
