Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty took over as Commandant of Indian Naval Academy

Flag Officer Commanding the Western Fleet of Indian Navy Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty took over as Commandant of Indian Naval Academy whereas Vice Admiral AN Pramod assumed charge as the Director General Naval Operations (DGNO), on 15 Jan 24.

Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty:
Vice Admiral Vineet Mccarty  was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 Jul 1989 and is a graduate of Defence Service Staff College, Wellington (2005) and National Defence College, New Delhi (2017).

A specialist in ‘Gunnery and Missiles’, he served as the commissioning crew of INS Delhi and did all his specialist tenures onboard the frontline Guided Missile Destroyer. He has served as the Executive officer of a Seaward Defence Patrol Vessel, Guided Missile Vessel and Landing Platform Dock INS Jalashwa. He has commanded  Anti-Submarine Patrol Vessel INS Ajay, Guided Missile Corvette INS Khanjar and Guided Missile Frigate INS Shivalik.

According to a press release, Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty’s  staff assignments include Training Commander at the Naval Academy, and Command Plans Officer at the Headquarters Eastern Naval Command. He has served as Directing Staff at the Naval and Maritime Academy, Sri Lanka and was India’s Defence Adviser to the Republic of Singapore with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of the Philippines. He was Commodore (Naval Plans) from 2018 – 2020, where his charter of responsibility included drawing up Indian Navy’s Perspective, Financial and Acquisition Plans.

After elevation to the Flag Rank on 10 Feb 2020, Vice Admiral McCarty assumed duties of Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (Staff Requirements) at the Naval Headquarters, where he was responsible for Capability Development and formulating the Combat Policy of the Indian Navy. Prior to assuming charge as the Commandant of Indian Naval Academy, he was Flag Officer Commanding the Western Fleet from 15 Nov 2022 to 09 Nov 2023.

Vice Admiral AN Pramod :

Vice Admiral Pramod also assumed charge as the Director General Naval Operations (DGNO) on 15 Jan 2024. An alumnus of the 38th Integrated Cadet Course of Naval Academy in  Goa, he was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 1st July 1990.Vice Admiral AN Pramod  is a CAT ‘A’ Sea King Air Operations Officer and a Communication & Electronics Warfare Specialist. He did the Staff Course at DSSC Wellington (Nilgiris) and the Naval Higher Command Course at NWC, Goa.

Vice Admiral Pramod assumed charge as DGNO.

His important afloat appointments include Fleet Operations Officer, Western Fleet, Command of Indian Navy’s  ships Abhay, Shardul and Satpura, Executive Officer Rajput, SCO Sujata and GO II Kirpan.  He commanded the Naval Air Station, Utkrosh at Port Blair and was also the Directing Staff at DSSC, Wellington. AN Pramod  has also held important staff appointments that include Joint Director, Naval Air Staff & Joint Director, Director and the Principal Director Aircraft Acquisition.  He has also been the member of Indian Strategic & Operational Council (INSOC) and Tactical Audit Group (TAG) from 2016-19 and 2006-09 respectively.

The Flag Officer has tenanted the appointments of Deputy Commandant, INA, ACNS (Air) at Naval Headquarters and Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra Naval Area. Vice Admiral AN Pramod  Ambili Pramod. They have two children Chitranjali and Siddhanta.
