Government extended tenure of CDS General Anil Chauhan

The   Government of India  has extended the tenure of Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan until May 30, 2026. General Chauhan is 64 years old and was appointed India’s CDS three years ago.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Defence on Wednesday said that the government has approved the extension of General Chauhan’s tenure as CDS until May 30 or until further orders.

“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of service of General Anil Chauhan as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) till September 24, 2025, who will also serve as Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, Government of India, till May 30, 2026, or until further orders.” said the Ministry.

For several months, no officer was appointed to the post of CDS after India’s first CDS General Bipin Rawat,  who died in a helicopter crash. General Anil Chauhan was appointed CDS on September 22, 2022. Thus, General Chauhan is India’s second CDS.

Who is CDS General Anil Chauhan:
Born in 1961, General Anil Chauhan is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, and the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun. He was commissioned into the Indian Army in 1981.

General Chauhan has also been awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal for his exemplary services.
