The Indian Army intensified flood relief operations in Upper Assam under ‘Operation Jal Rahat’. At the request of the civil administration, four flood relief columns from the Red Shield Division (under the Army’s Spear Corps) were deployed on July 20 to the flood-affected districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat for rescue, evacuation, and relief operations.
These columns are operating in Nazira and Amguri (Sivasagar district), Sonari (Charaideo district), and Jorhat district. They are being supported by soldiers from units under the Spear Corps.
Equipped with rescue boats, medical teams, engineering resources, and relief supplies, the soldiers have safely evacuated stranded civilians—including families—from flooded areas and are providing emergency medical aid and relief to the affected people. Aerial surveillance via helicopters and drone flights is being conducted over the affected areas to assess the flood situation and effectively direct the deployment of resources on the ground.
Army engineer units are assisting in restoring connectivity in areas where infrastructure has been damaged. This operation is being conducted in collaboration with the district administrations of Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other civil agencies.
