The Indian Ministry of Defence has signed two separate contracts with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), at a total cost of over Rs 3,700 crore, to enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Air Force (IAF). The first contract, worth over Rs 2,800 crore, pertains to the supply of DRDO’s Medium Power Radars (MPR) ‘Arudhra’ for the IAF.

Indigenously designed and developed DR-118 Radar Warning Receiver is for the Sukhoi Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft.This is a twinjet multirole air superiority fighter developed by Russia’s Sukhoi and built under licence by India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the Indian Air Force.
It is said that signing of these contracts is a further boost to the vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat.The Arudhra is a 4D multi-function phased array radar with electronic steering for surveillance, detection and tracking of aerial targets. The Indian Air Force has already undertaken successful trials of the system and it will improve the Air Defence coverage across the operational area.
