The United States has removed US Army’s top officer General Randy George in the middle of the war with Iran. Some more top officials, related to Defence services and internal security , are expected to be fired by the Trump administration. Following the recent ouster of Attorney General Pam Bondi, the discussions are underway about the exit of several top officials, including Director of Federal Bureau Kash Patel.
According to The Atlantic, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth fired the Army’s top officer, and the White House is discussing the potential departure of the US Army Secretary in what together would be the biggest wartime military shake-up in decades.
The Atlantic, quoting a Pentagon official, has reported that Hegseth asked General Randy George, who was just over halfway through his slated tenure as Army chief of staff, to step down and retire immediately. Officials at the White House are also discussing the future of Army Secretary Dan Driscoll who is a close friend of Vice President Vance. . One Pentagon official said Driscoll was expected to leave the department soon.
Pete Hegseth and President Donald Trump have repeatedly raved about the military’s performance in the war against Iran. But George’s position has been seen as tenuous since Hegseth’s arrival at the Pentagon. Hegseth and Driscoll, both Army veterans with political ambitions, have been locked in a rivalry over the past year, current and former officials have said.
