17 May 2025 …
It was Saturday afternoon and the place was in the Kaushambi Police Station area of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Ankit Toamr , a 33 year old UP Police Constable , was performing his duty as Traffic Policemen near Hindon river which is often called Hindon Canal. There were few other colleagues around as well but Ankit reacted first and jumped into the flowing water to save a woman named Arti… a stranger for Ankit. Arti is saved but Ankit is no more in the World.
According to police, the woman Arti , a resident of nearby Vaishali locality , came there with the intention to end her life by drowning in flowing water. She was standing at the edge of bridge when Ankit saw her and probably guessed that she had come with the intention of committing suicide. As soon as the woman jumped into the water, constable Ankit Tomar , without wasting a few seconds , jumped into the water. He was wearing his uniform and shoes.
Unfortunately, Ankit could not save himself. However, few people and Ankit’s colleagues together took the drowning woman out safely. Ankit was found a little away from the place of incident. He was taken to a nearby hospital into an autorickshaw but by then it was too late. Doctors declared him dead.

33-year-old Ankit Tomar is no longer in this world. He fulfilled the duty of the police uniform and the religion of humanity. Ankit did not waste even a moment in putting his life at stake to save a stranger.
“If Ankit had not reacted , it would have been difficult for that drowning woman to be saved. The people present nearby also noticed the woman only when Ankit jumped into the water to save her,” said a few passerby.
Constable Ankit Tomar was cremated with state honours. Colleagues bid farewell to their great friend with pride and tearful eyes. Senior officers of Ghaziabad Police Commissionerate came to pay their last respects to their brave colleague who personified the motto of UP Police ” Suraksha Apki , Sankalp Hamara ” (Your security is our commitment).
Mortal remains of Ankit, who sacrificed his life on the line of duty, were brought to the Police Lines where police officers paid tribute by offering wreaths. Many senior officers including Police Commissioner J. Ravinder Gaur, Additional Police Commissioner Alok Priyadarshi, Deputy Commissioner of Rural Zone (DCP) Surendra Nath Tiwari and Deputy Commissioner of City (DCP, City) Dhawal Jaiswal also participated in the last journey of the martyr.
Amidst emotional moments, Police Commissioner J. Ravinder Gaur said that Constable Ankit Tomar showed bravery and saved the life of a woman. He said, “Amit saved the life of the woman by sacrificing his own life. This courageous act is incomparable.”
Ankit Tomar was originally a resident of Baraula Jafrabad village in Banna Devi police station area of Aligarh. The bereaved family consists of Ankit’s wife Shashi and elderly father Sube Singh. Ankit had no children and he himself was the only son in the family.
