Police personnel in the district are mourning the untimely death of Vinod Sharma, a professional police officer known for his gentle demeanor. SI Vinod Sharma was cremated with police honors. Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth expressed grief over SI Sharma’s death and offered condolences to the bereaved family.
Police officials from the district, including Tehri SSP Shweta Chaubey, paid their final salute. A large number of public representatives and local residents attended the funeral.
Before joining the Uttarakhand Police in 2016, Vinod Sharma had served in the Indian Army for 15 years. He was part of the 10 Garhwal Rifles. Since 2017, he has been posted at various police stations and outposts in Tehri district. He had served as the in-charge of the Dhalwala and Kailash Gate outposts and had been posted at the Shivpuri outpost for about six months. His father, Mulakraj Sharma, broke down in tears when his mortal remains were brought to AIIMS Rishikesh for a post-mortem.
A deep grief engulfed the family when Vinod Sharma’s mortal remains were brought to his village, Ghamandpur Ranipokhari. His wife, two daughters, and parents wailed uncontrollably upon seeing the body. His elder daughter is 15 years old, and the younger one is 13.
Vinod Sharma’s younger brother, Ashish Sharma, performed the last rites at Purnanand Ghat. Ashish is also a Sub-Inspector in the Uttarakhand Police and presently deployed as the in-charge of the Kailash Gate police outpost under the Muni Ki Reti police station area.
Vinod Sharma was a lively and noble-hearted man. He was immensely popular among both police personnel and the general public due to his humility, dedication to duty, and gentle nature.
How the accident occurred:
Vinod Sharma, the in-charge of the Shivpuri police outpost, was assigned duty at the Bhadrakali check post on Monday night. He was performing vehicle-checking duties there. After completing his shift on Tuesday morning, he was returning to the Shivpuri outpost in his personal SUV. His vehicle went out of control and plunged into a deep gorge off the road. While the exact cause of the accident remains unknown, it is suspected that he might have dozed off while driving.
The accident was discovered after some time. Local police, the SDRF, and rescue teams arrived at the scene. The team descended into the gorge, reached the vehicle, and retrieved Vinod Sharma; he was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
