Abhinav Kumar is new chief of Uttarakhand Police, DGP became emotional during farewell

IPS Abhinav Kumar took charge of Uttarakhand Police as Acting Director General on Thursday.

Abhinav Kumar , a 1996 batch IPS officer , is the new chief of  Uttarakhand Police. He has been given additional charge of Director General of Police  after the retirement of 1989 batch Indian Police Service officer Ashok Kumar from the post of Director General of Uttarakhand Police on Thursday. IPS Abinav Kumar  will serve as the acting police chief of Uttarakhand. In this way IPS Abhinav Kumar has become the 12th police chief of Uttarakhand state.

Abhinav Kumar is currently the Additional Director General of Police ( Information and Security) in Uttarakhand, but along with this he will also have to look after the responsibility of DGP. By the way, he is also the President of Uttarakhand IPS Officers Association.

DGP became emotional:
IPS Ashok Kumar, who  commanded the Uttarakhand Police for three years, became emotional at the time of his retirement.  Outgoing DGP Ashok Kumar said that now Uttarakhand Police is in safe hands. He handed over the baton to Abhinav Kumar as a ritual. At the time of farewell of IPS Ashok Kumar, many officers also participated in the ritual of  pushing his car.

Ganga worship before retirement:
IPS Ashok Kumar took over as the Director General of Police of Uttarakhand state during a challenging situation because of  the huge outbreak of the global pandemic Coronavirus. A day before his retirement DGP Ashok Kumar reached Haridwar. He performed puja at Harki Pauri and also participated in the evening Ganga Aarti.

Traffic on top priority :
While taking charge as the Police Chief of Uttarakhand, IPS Abhinav Kumar said that controlling crime and maintaining law and order will be his priority but the traffic system will be on the top of his list. IPS Abhinav Kumar says that traffic is a bigger problem than heinous crime in Uttarakhand, hence a new plan will be worked on for this. Besides, making Uttarakhand a drug-free state will also be one of the most important tasks.

Appointment order:
In the letter issued by the Additional Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand, it was said, ” Abhinav Kumar (IPS-RA-1996), Additional Director General of Police, Intelligence and Security, Uttarakhand, has been given additional charge of the post of Director General of Police, Uttarakhand along with his present charge from 01.12.2023 till further orders.”

Abhinav Kumar has held positions like Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Haridwar and Dehradun, Inspector General of Police (IG) of Garhwal region along with IG in Border Security Force (BSF). IPS Abhinav Kumar was posted in Jammu and Kashmir in Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). He remained on deputation in Jammu and Kashmir for many years and was there even at the time of removal of Article 370.
