Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s unannounced visit to Ladakh on Friday has not only boosted the morale of armed forces but also sent a clear signal to China about India’s firmness in protecting its borders. Prime Minister was accompanied by Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and Army Chief Gen Manoj Mukund Naravane in the morning.
Although Prime Minister Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh have been visiting armed forces in border areas yet this visit is being seen as differently. In Leh, PM Modi met soldiers and took stock of the security in border area. He was welcomed by soldiers in Nimu who were chanting Bharat Mata Ki Jai and Vande Matram. Later he interacted with personnel from the Army, Indian Air Force and the Indo-Tibetan Border police ( ITBP). Nimu is the located at 11,000 feet.

Why sudden visit?
It is reliably learnt that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was scheduled to visit the Line of Actual Control (LAC) but later the visit was planned for Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat.Prime Minister Narendra Modi however surprised everyone by arriving there in morning. His visit is being seen as a political move by a section of experts on political and diplomatic affairs.

What happened in Galwan Valley?
The stand off between Indian and Chinese Armies took place in Galwan Valley on June 15 after 20 indian soldiers were killed . The Chinese army also suffered casualties but has not confirmed the number of casualties. Since then the Indian and Chinese armies have been involved in a bitter stand off in multiple locations in eastern Ladakh for quite sometime. After the stand off, both sides have started intensive patrolling on the border of their side besides increasing the number of weapons.

Several rounds of meetings between India and China forces have taken place but talks between Indian and Chinese leadership have still not held. India has decided to not hold trade talks or deals with Chinese firms. India has also banned 59 Chinese Apps including famous Tik Tok.

PM ‘s message

In his message PM Modi said that the age of expansionism is over as this is the age of development. He further said that expansionist forces have either lost or were forced to turn back.
