The circumstances surrounding the death of Border Security Force Sub-Inspector Satyawan are horrific. The untimely and sudden death of a healthy person is painful, but in Satyawan’s case, not only are the circumstances of his death unusual, but the subsequent events have exacerbated the pain of his family and acquaintances. He died after being hit by a train, which is being considered an accident, but the police were unable to identify him. Therefore, according to the norm, after preserving for three days the police cremated the body as unclaimed.

SI Satyawan, posted in the BSF and a resident of Hisar district in Haryana, was on the way to Jammu to attend an  official course. He was traveling on the Swaraj Express train on October 20, 2025. SI Satyawan apparently alighted from the train at the Ludhiana platform. As the train began moving, he lost his balance while trying to reboard. Satyawan fell under the train, dying on the spot.

Police did not find any documents  that could help in identification of the deceased, nor was his mobile phone found. The Railway Police in Ludhiana, following the usual rules in the recovery of unidentified bodies, performed the last rites after waiting for 72-hours of  time span. However, a bag with the name “SI Satyawan” written on it was later recovered on the platform.

Meanwhile, SI Satyawan’s family filed a missing person report in Hisar. The family had been searching for him for a month and now when they reached the Ludhiana Government Railway Police (GRP) station, his daughter identified his belongings kept there.
