Lt. Gen. J. Debnath assumes charge as Commandant AMC Centre & College in Lucknow

Lieutenant General J. Debnath assumed the office of Commandant of the Army Medical Corps (AMC) Centre and College, Lucknow, and Officer-in-Charge of AMC Records on Saturday (August 1, 2026). Prior to this, he was posted as Major General (Medical) at the Eastern Command Headquarters.

The AMC Centre and College in Lucknow is a premier training institute of the Indian Army. The institute is responsible for training and preparing the future leadership of the Army Medical Corps, as well as maintaining the highest standards of military medical education and professional excellence.

An alumnus of Silchar Medical College( Assam) , Lieutenant General J. Debnath is a distinguished radiologist trained in CT and MRI. During his illustrious 36-year career, he has served in clinical, academic, operational, research and administrative roles within the Armed Forces Medical Services.

General J. Debnath has held various prestigious command, staff, and instructional appointments, making significant contributions to patient care, medical education, healthcare administration, and military medicine. His extensive experience in leadership and institution-building has earned him recognition as a skilled clinician, educator, and administrator.

General officer has previously commanded the Command Hospital, Central Command, in Lucknow. Furthermore, he served as the Editor-in-Chief of the ‘Medical Journal Armed Forces India’ (MJAFI) for four years.
