IPS Nalin Prabhat is new Director General of National Security Guard

Senior officer of Indian Police Service (IPS) Nalin Prabhat has been appointed as the Director-General of National Security Guard (NSG), India’s counter-terrorism force, according to an order of Ministry of Personnel Ministry.

Nalin Prabhat, a 1992 batch IPS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre, is presently posted  as Additional Director General in Central Reserve Police Force.

According to the  Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved Nalin Prabhat’s  appointment as the Director General, NSG for a period upto August 31, 2028 i.e. the date of his superannuation.

At present Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Chief Daljit Singh Chawdhary is holding the additional charge of the NSG.

Popular as a force of Black Cat Commando,  NSG is experts in counter terrorism and anti hijacking. NSG commandos have expertise in  VVIP security as well.

The ACC has also approved the appointment of Intelligence Bureau Additional Director Sapna Tewari as the Special Director in the agency. Tewari has been appointed for a tenure of two years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or up to the date of her superannuation i.e. April 30, 2026.
