Since the retirement of IPS Ashok Kumar from the post of Director General of Uttarakhand Police (dgp uttarakhand), no one has been the full-time police chief. Since November 2023, 1996 batch IPS Abhinav Kumar was commanding the state police as the acting Director General of Police of Uttarakhand. Abhinav Kumar is a 1996 batch IPS.
Deepam Seth, born in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, is a student of Sherwood College, Nainital and has obtained an engineering degree from BITS Pilani.
Deepam Seth has been on central deputation since 2019. Before becoming the police chief of Uttarakhand, Mr. Seth was posted as Additional Director General (ADG) in the Sashastra Seema Bal .
Describing his priorities while taking over the post of DGP of Uttarakhand, Mr. Seth talked about curbing the drug mafia. He said that control over cyber crime will also be among the priorities. Apart from developing the state’s capacity in disaster management, the focus will be on crimes against women and children and a smooth traffic system.
