From Khaki to Khadi: former IPS officer Umesh Kumar Singh joins Congress

Retired police officer of Uttar Pradesh, Umesh Kumar Singh, after giving up KHAKI , has now started his political career in Congress by donning KHADI. On Sunday, in the capital Lucknow, he announced to join the Congress Party. 64-year-old Umesh Kumar Singh had retired from the post of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in Uttar Pradesh Police.

Umesh Kumar Singh, a native of Deoria joined  Uttar Pradesh Police as an officer of State Police Service in 1989. Apart from holding various posts in UP, he has also served as  the police chief in the districts.

Umesh Kumar Singh announced to join Congress at the Congress headquarters located at Mall Avenue in Lucknow.
State Police Service officer (SPS officer) Umesh Kumar Singh was promoted to Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and was allotted 2005 batch.  IPS Umesh Kumar Singh had retired from the post of DIG in Anti Corruption Organization (ACO) in Lucknow.Former IPS Umesh Kumar Singh had announced to join Congress along with Raj Bahadur Singh, who was a minister in the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government, and some other leaders. On Sunday, all of them took membership of the party in the presence of UP Congress President Ajay Rai at the Congress’s  Mall Avenue office in Lucknow.
