President of India Droupadi Murmu reviewed the passing out parade of the 158th Regular Course and the 141st Technical Graduate Course at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun on Saturday (June 13, 2026). She described the induction of women cadets into the IMA as a significant milestone in its history.

Uttarakhand Governor Lieutenant General (Retired) Gurmeet Singh and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami were also present as guests at the passing out parade ceremony.

This was a momentous occasion in the IMA’s 94-year history. For the first time since its establishment in 1932, a batch of women officer cadets graduated from this prestigious academy during the Spring Term passing out parade and received permanent commissions as Lieutenants in the Indian Army. There were 9 women among the 515 cadets passing out.

The journey of these cadets began in August 2022, following a historic order of 2021 by Supreme Court of India  that led the National Defence Academy (NDA) to welcome its first batch of women cadets. Of the women who joined the NDA’s 148th Course, 17 successfully completed their three-year training and graduated in May/June 2025.
